Now more than ever, parents are reaching for screen-free ways to keep their kids entertained, and stay sane themselves. Here are three easy suggestions:
- Breathe, medidate, and have your little one coach you. There has never been a better time to test out youtube yoga/meditation classes, or breath exercises. “Exercise” sounds harder than it is…it’s really this simple: lie on your back and breathe in for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 7 seconds, and exhale for 8 seconds. This is an easy one to let your little one participate in with you, or better yet, make them your new meditation/quiet time director and lead you in breath exercises!
- Practice gratitude together. What is good about this time? Challenge your family to list 10 NEW things you are grateful for every day, for 10 days. Have kids illustrate the lists and create a “Gratitude Gallery”, where they can tape up all their creations onto a wall or bulletin board and you can discuss them together.
- Go places in place: Who needs a train, plane, or automobile when you’ve got a bunch of chairs and a kiddo eager to run the show? Let your child play with chairs and arrange them into what would be a seating arrangement for a plane or train (two rows). Have them color maps of where you’re going to go! Set a time when you’ll “take flight” with them and they can show you all their creations.
